Dr. Coates speaks and writes about parent communication skills and adolescent brain development for parents and adults who work with youth. He explains how adults can guide young people to develop their prefrontal cortex for critical thinking skills, which enable them to avoid the pitfalls of growing up and to successfully deal with the challenges of adult life.
As CEO of Performance Support Systems, Inc., Dr. Coates has created award-winning brain-based assessment and learning programs and resources for parents, leaders and teams for over 30 years.
A graduate of West Point (1967), he retired from the U.S. Army as a lieutenant colonel (1987). He earned his Ph.D. from Duke University (1977) and has served on the faculties of the United States Military Academy, the Armed Forces Staff College, the College of William and Mary, and the Center for Creative Leadership.
